Licensing MS Dynamics 365 Business Central for Your Organization

We often focus on Office 365 when promoting our Microsoft 365 licensing support. But there are other products in the 365 family. One of them is MS Dynamics 365 (D365) Business Central. D365 is a comprehensive business management package ideal for small- and medium-sized businesses in the U.S.

A big plus for D365 is its flexible licensing model. Licensing flexibility makes the solution accessible to organizations with diverse needs. Subscription-based licensing allows organizations to scale D365 in order to maintain the budget.

More About D365

In its most basic form, Dynamics 365 Business Central is a cloud-based solution intended primarily to give organizations a way to centralize all their data in a collaborative cloud environment. Organizations get a single platform that seamlessly integrates with other MS products and services. For example, D365 works flawlessly with Office 365 and Power Apps.

Since D365 is highly scalable, it easily adapts to an organization's growing needs. At the same time, it does not compromise on things like reporting and analytics. It is one of the best cloud-based data management solutions currently on the market.

Various Licensing Options

Microsoft offers several licensing types designed to cater to diverse organizational needs. The Essentials license is a perfect example. It provides access to all D365's core business functions. It is the baseline for organizations getting into D365 for the first time.

Microsoft's Premium license for D365 offers access to additional features. Meanwhile, the Team Members license is intended for minimal users who only need access to the solution's basic functions. Team Member users are unable to access all D365's features.

As with any other Microsoft product, it is crucial that D365 users choose the right license. Failing to do so typically means the product is not fully optimized for an organization. In a worst-case scenario, having the wrong license could mean compliance issues. Avoid selecting the wrong licenses by working with an MS licensing expert. As one ourselves, we can advise organizations about the most appropriate D365 license for them.

Monthly Subscription Pricing

Dynamics 365 Business Central is provided via a subscription model. Pricing is based on the number of users per month and combines software, data management services, and cloud hosting in a single cost structure.

One of the advantages of D365 pricing is that customers do not incur extra costs when the solution is deployed on Azure. Even better, customers are provided with one production environment and three sandbox environments with their subscriptions.

Adding Additional Apps

Attach Licenses are another big advantage of D365 licensing. These additional licenses are 'attached' when consumers choose to add new D365 apps to the base solution. Attach Licenses simplify decision making by encouraging customers to deploy multiple D365 apps to create a tailored solution that meets core business needs without substantially increasing licensing fees.

Additional flexibility and support are available when customers purchase D365 licenses through a Certified Partner rather than directly from Microsoft. We would always recommend working through a Partner, especially since doing so affords access to additional support.

Special Licensing Options

As we wrap things up, you might be interested to know that Microsoft offers a number of special licensing options for D365. For example, the Perpetual License gives organizations the opportunity to use D365 perpetually. Users pay a onetime fee based on modules and users, along with an Enhancement Plan monthly subscription.

Microsoft 365 licensing support is our bread and butter here at Opkalla. If you ever find yourself confused about D365 licensing or support, do not be afraid to contact us for help. We are a Microsoft Certified Partner more than capable of helping you with D365.
